Fun Facts About Everyone’s Favorite Morning Drug, Caffeine!

1. Decaffeinated coffee, or “decaf,” isn’t actually absent of caffeine. (Much like your typical non-alcoholic beers do still have some alcohol content in them.)


2. Caffeine takes 15-20 minutes to “kick in” and can last for anywhere from 8-15 hours!

3. A lighter coffee roast actually contains more caffeine than a dark roast. (And some people would say tastes better too!)

4. Most coffee brews contain more caffeine than your average energy drinks. Take THAT Red Bull!

5. Women can generally metabolize caffeine faster than men. Nice job ladies.

6. Like most drugs, caffeine can be lethal if you consume somewhere between 10-20 grams, but in order to get that much caffeine out of coffee, you’d have to consume nearly 5 gallons!

7. Around 80% of Americans consume caffeine daily making it the most popular drug in the USA and in the world! 90% of the world consumes caffeine in some form everyday.

8. Despite the previous fact, Americans do not consume the most amount of caffeine per day. Adults in Finland consume around 400mg of caffeine each day. Wow.

9. According to a recent John Hopkins study, caffeine can actually enhance memory. (Some of us can use all the help we can get when it comes to memory.)

10. Ever heard of a caffeine nap? According to Wired’s How-To Wiki, consuming a cup of coffee followed by a 15 minute nap, you can reboot your brain and reduce that groggy 3pm feeling you get everyday.
